Native plants in Massachusetts are like the local superheroes of nature. They have been living here for a long time, and they play a crucial role in keeping our environment healthy. These plants have adapted to the local weather, soil, and wildlife over thousands of years, so they're a perfect fit for our ecosystem.

• To identify and highlight the

  keystone native species and their importance to the local ecology.

• To engage the community in

  appreciating the beneficial flora

  and fauna at Hammond.

• To help the larger community in

  efforts to restore and maintain

  native flora that support local

  food webs.

• To identify and remove the

  non-native flora which threatens

  the ecological balance.

Three years ago, HAVEN began a

restoration project that is still

underway to remove the invasive

plants around the golf course which

were out competing the native

species and to encourage and add

to the native plants in this area.

Native insects, birds and wildlife rely

on an interdependent food web that

has co-evolved over thousands of

years.
